We just viewed the museum including a film. Part of the film included a portion of a Nazi propaganda film meant to dupe the Red Cross in its 1943 visit when reports of genocide were being investigated. We just bought Hana Greenfield's Fragments of Memory at the museum shop and met her sister who was here today. The two of them survived Terezin and other camps including Auschwitz.
The camp was originally built in the late 18th century by the Emperor of Austria Hungary (and named after his mother) as a fortress to repel invasions from Prussia but did not serve its intended purpose, as became clear during the 1866 war.
A lighter note: as I was typing this we were just "mooned" by someone changing in the back of his van.
