A Taste of Rome
We arrived at the Vatican and started with a tour through the museums with a knowledgeable guide from Holland (who will be wildly happy right now, as his team just scored a come from behind victory over favoured Brazil in the quarter finals of the FIFA World Cup). The wealth of the collection is staggering and it would take years to see everything.
We then went into the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's and also lingered in the square. Having been there before it felt unpressured and it was possible to do it at a relaxed pace and without feeling we would miss something crucial.
After a lunch of salad, pasta, a Coke and beer and some gelato, we went to the Piazza Navono for a quick stroll and saw yet more ruins. We didn't know this last visit, but the square is built in top of an ancient stadium. It was fascinating to view it again with that piece of new information.
We then went to the main synagogue and took a tour of it and also visited the museum. It was our first time inside on what is now my third time (and Kim's fourth time) in Rome.
We then went inside the Pantheon and strolled in that area including having an espresso (mine being a double) at il caffe Saint-Eustachio. Kim saw some nice dressed to try on but we both were too hot and grimy to dare trying on clothes. We're now resting at the hotel before going for dinner in the Jewish ghetto area of the city in a couple more hours. Food report to follow!
