Corrections and Morning so Far
Two actually: 1. It will be 35 so I changed for nothing. 2. I confused Romanesque with Renaissance in describing two arches in a post with a photo. The former is an arch shape and the latter is flat/horizontal.
We just took the subway up to an area where we are visiting Vysehrad. It was built in the 1600's and was the site of the palaces for the first Czech kings. The national cemetery is also here. When we first got off we were in a drab area built in the Communist era with a convention centre for party congresses.
The views here are amazing and someone is kayaking on the river down below.
We decided the best way to get to the train station tomorrow is again via the subway. The bags should be fun!
We started with a visit to the stunning Spanish synagogue that no longer is in use other than as a museum. There was a Gothic style silver menorah that Michele Obama liked so much that she had the White House borrow it last year for the official Hanukkah party.
There was an interesting statue of Kafka sitting on someone's shoulders at the end of an exhausting day touring Prague. I'm enjoying our tour but can relate!

Hi Mark and Kim,
ReplyDeleteWe went to the Spanish Synagogue for Kol Nidre when we were in Prague in 1999. An American rabbi led the service that was adapted so that it would meet the needs of the Reform, Conservative and Orthodox Jews who were participating. It was very moving and an unforgettable experience. Love, Eleanor
