So Far..

So far this is our favourite meal ever and that's apart from the occasion and the company. We're sitting on an upstairs outdoor terrace below balconies of what appears to be an apartment block. There is a nice breeze and only four other tables. Everyone else appears to also be having either the tasting menu (a selection from the regular menu) or a surprise menu (which changes daily).

First, on the table with the pink champagne were homemade breads including parmesan and focaccia. We also were served an off menu amuse bouche with catfish and oysters.

The official first course was green pepper gazpacho with potato salad on the side and sardine on top served with red pepper jelly. The course was served with Wittmann Scheurebe-it is an old grape from a Niagara like region bordering on the Rhine.

The second course was served with Emrich-Schonleber 2007 Riesling from Nahe west of the Rhine-Menzinger Halenberg. The dish was three types of salmon including carpaccio and a sorbet (canpari?). I'm starting to forget details but took photos however off that looked.

The next course was accompanied by a riesling, namely Battenfeldspanier 2008 Hohrl-Sulzen. But at this point I had to cut Kim off of wine. It was served with watercress and potato salad, pike perch and John Dory and hazelnut beurre blanc. There were also some chanterelles mushrooms.

The last pre-dessert course was a baked farm soft boiled egg with parmesan puree, fried onions and salad. The wine is Weingut Siener 2008 Mandelberg Kalkgestein aged in oak (another white and I may now have to cut myself off). I'm not stuffed but am feeling the wine at this point.

Each course was served on a black slate tablet.

And now for the dessert...actually you'll have to await the next post, if I'm coherent enough to write it. Photos to follow.

"My goodness, how on earth can you remember all the wines, let alone digest all that food!! But I'm glad you really enjoyed the celebration, and am not surprised they thought it was your honeymoon. Hope it cools off a bit for your last few days.
    Love, Mom"
