Mucha Mucha

We're escaping the heat touring the Alfons Mucha exhibit. He demonstrates "art nouveau" which at this point must not be so new any more. But it was in his day. Lots of different forms of art are on display including cartoons and photographs (but we aren't allowed to take any of the exhibit). He died as the Germans (or are we meant to refer instead to the Nazis?) Invaded in 1939.

There are some apparent parallels as between the Czechs as a Slavic minority with a distinct language and culture in a larger German speaking area and the French Canadians in Quebec within North America. Slovakia was united with the Czechs to form a larger independent state in 1918 separate and apart from the German majority, as the Czechs and Slovaks are both Slavic peoples, but they are each distinct from each other with different languages. Slovak nationalism led to the separation of Slovakia from Czechoslovakia in the 1990's. and the formation of two separate independent republics.
